The vineyard was first planted in 1998 with initial plantings of Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc. Several years later, Traminette, Merlot, and Petit Verdot were added. More recently, Sauvignon Blanc was planted bringing the total to 9 acres of grapevines. The vineyard is well-known for producing some of the best grapes in Virginia. The winery produces primarily “estate” wines which means that most of Virginia Mountain Vineyards wines are produced from grapes grown in our vineyard.
